ABOUT DOMUS ACADEMY
Domus Academy (DA) was founded in Milan in 1983, offering two subjects: Design and Fashion Design. The school now offers nine different Masters programs. In each program students begin with a theoretical base that includes an introduction to the instruments of their field of study that they then use in projects carried out with the aid of renowned designers. They are also taught to pay careful attention to marketing and communication techniques. DA students thus learn all essential aspects of design, from the initial abstract concepts to the successful presentation of the final product.

Master in Accessories Design
January 09 to December 09
The Master offers an in-depth investigation of the Accessories field, focusing on all that revolves around clothing and people, elements that are different in their nature, but at the same time part of a specific system: the Fashion System.
The Objective
The participants will deal with innovative design approaches, receiving a deep and advanced knowledge of the sector in all its peculiarities. The Master may be interpreted as a laboratory where students can express their individual talents and skills in harmony with the world of production and entrepreneurship.
Program Structure
The first months of the course are focused on building the conceptual roots to fully investigate the Fashion and Accessories area. The basic courses of the department - psychology, anthropology, socioeconomic forecasting, marketing and management, contemporary art - are shared with the Master in Fashion Design in order to allow students a thorough integration in terms of cultural exchange. The second step offers a specific path in the accessories field, with thematic workshops, and the third step is devoted to the Final Master thesis.
Master in Business Design
November 08 to December 09
Master of Business Design is a creative format of the Master in Business Administration and Innovation which proposes new, intense relations between the world of business and the world of design. In collaboration with SDA Bocconi School of Management
The Objective
The Master in Business Design intends to create a new managerial class for design driven companies composed of individuals able to combine creativity, managerial skills and entrepreneurial spirit. Its goal is also to provide tools to tackle complex social conditions, globalization and the spread of new economic production systems.
Program Structure
The teaching activity of the Master is divided into three parts:
November-June: is articulated in lectures and workshops focused on three main topics - business management and innovation languages, creativity languages, the Made in Italy model: the students are encouraged to work in teams on briefs given by our partner companies and the Master of Business Design Faculty.
July-September: consists of a research that each student carries out in a company or in a design studio, broadening one of the themes faced during the first part of the course.
October - December: the course is concluded with a final master thesis, that students will develop under the guidance of a mentor and a tutor.
Master in Car Design and Mobility
January 09 to December 09
The Master explores a wide range of Car Design innovative ideas, investigates the problems related to mobility - traffic, pollution, safety - and analyzes how the new means of transportation can play an essential role in this evolutionary scenario.
The Objective
The Master in Car Design and Mobility investigates the functional relation between mobility and territory, facing the complex development of the vehicle according to emerging needs. The new means of transportation are built respecting ergonomics, safety, environmental impact, but also aesthetics.
Program Structure
The program is divided into three sections: the first section consists of introductive lectures dedicated to the design culture with the aim of updating the skills the students have acquired in their backgrounds, and to bring them towards a common vision; the second section includes an intense workshop activity focused on specific car design themes, and the last section is dedicated to the final Master thesis.
Master in Culture Experience Design and Management - in Rome
November 08 to December 09
This Master, taught in Rome, will train people to become managers of cultural experiences, professionals able to give back the proper value to the artistic and cultural patrimony combining design skills with management abilities.
The Objective
The main goal of the Master is to create a professional and innovative profile: a manager of cultural experiences who develops, organizes and runs cultural activities using both traditional and multimedia communication tools.
The Course
Rome represents the natural environment for MED because of its historical and artistic richness, its contemporary architecture sites, its net of cultural institutions, its film industry and its continuous and constant flow of tourism. The Master program involves the development of cultural projects throughout Rome, strongly linked to the city itself.
The first part of the teaching activity is organized in thematic workshops enriched with specific lectures.
The second part is devoted to the Final Master Thesis.
Master in Product Design
January 09 to December 09
The Master is an exploration of research and design experiences.
The Objective
The historical flagship course of Domus Academy has given birth to more than a generation of designers. It aims at developing professionals able to combine specific skills with the desire to actively explore new grounds, new aesthetic approaches and cultural values.
The Course
The course is divided into three sections.
First section: mainly based on a cycle of lectures with the aim of updating the skills the students have acquired in their backgrounds with the goal of bringing the students towards a common vision.
Second section: includes an intense workshop activity focused on outstanding design topics, defined, thanks in part, by collaborations with important companies.
Third section: dedicated to the final Master thesis.
Master in Fashion Design
January 09 to December 09
The Master proposes an integrated approach between creative, cultural, productive marketing and communication aspects, contributing to the development of professionals able to successfully express their creativity and to effectively face the evolutionary challenges of the Fashion world.
The Objective
The objective of the Master is to train professionals with the ability to blend creativity and theoretical knowledge with management skills in terms of organization and relations with the world of production. Being in Milan is a constant "plus", as this is the only "destination viewpoint" from which to understand and analyze the most complex and articulated fashion system.
The Course
The course is divided into three parts.
First part: (January-February) includes both a basic training on distribution system, trade fairs and manufacturing processes and two short seminars
Second part: (March-July)consists of a series of workshops in collaboration with companies and fashion designers.
Third part: (September-December) Devoted to the final thesis. The themes faced during the course are, in fact, constantly updated, considering the social, commercial and methodological evolution of the Fashion System.
Master in I-Design: Interactive Objects, Spaces, and Services
January 09 to December 09
The Master in I-Design offers the possibility to generate interaction design concepts and strategies interpreting the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) potentialities, integrating design sensitivity with market-oriented technological and business competencies.
The Objective
To provide student/designers with practical and conceptual skills to carry out a "problem setting" activity using their imagination to develop concepts, scenarios and strategies based on the introduction of Information & Communication Technology (ICT) in the everyday life environment, integrating design and creative sensitivity to more technical and market oriented competence.
The Course
The first semester includes a combination of skill and vision based activities. It gives students a working familiarity with the interactive design fundamentals. In particular, they learn to generate, assess and prototype their ideas effectively.
In the second semester students will have chosen a specific interaction design theme within the range of I-Design expertise. Thence, they intensely explore this finding their position in the design process, strengthening their talent, elaborating a personal perspective, and assuming a multi-dimensional point of view based on the understanding of the complexity of design activity nowadays. The academic year starts with a basic course dedicated to Interaction Design Culture, followed by a series of design workshops.
Master in Interior and Living Design
November 08 to December 09
The Master will encourage students to adopt a problem setting attitude and to develop their own poetical language by exploring, experiencing and constantly questioning the meaning of their own work.
The Objective
The course provides a cultural knowledge that is halfway between the arts and other disciplines and that represents the access codes to the new world. The Master explores all the aspects concerning interior design, from the most technical to the most intuitive ones, to make students fully understand the meaning of the words to live, to dwell, to use.
The Course
In the first eight months, the program is organized through a theoretical session, with Languages, Strategy and Research lectures, and a practical one with thematic workshops and technical visits. This course allows students to become conversant with the use of design tools for industrial and handicraft production and for functional and stylistic transformations as perceived by the consumer. The last months of the programs are dedicated to the final Master thesis.
Master in Urban Management and Architectural Design
January 09 to December 09
A vision where city planning, architecture, design skills, social and anthropological analysis, communication and marketing tools converge to create a new professional identity, able to redefine the functions and aesthetics of the urban space.
The Objective
This program will focus on sourcing solutions for a future-oriented contemporary project and investigating all the materials produced by the urban experience. This program has solid teaching and cognitive structure that develops training of excellence and an ability to reflect on the changes and transformations of the built environment, by promoting permanent research activities for adequate and innovative models and design solutions in urban, architectural, economics, human science, social and communication disciplines.
The Course
The academic course is divided into two parts.
First part: dedicated to a full immersion teamwork project. There will be a set of theoretical lessons and technical visits to architectural sites. This is followed by a series of lectures and workshops with the aim of updating the skills acquired by the students in their previous studies, bringing them towards a common vision of the problems related to the territory and its architectural sites.
Second part: Devoted to the development of an individual thesis.
